Mumbai: IndiGo Passenger Slaps Co-Traveller Mid-Flight, Airline Declares Him Unruly

Mumbai, 1st August 2025: A shocking mid-air incident unfolded onboard IndiGo flight 6E138 from Mumbai to Kolkata on Friday, when a seated passenger suddenly slapped another traveller standing in the aisle. The dramatic moment was captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

In the clip, the aisle passenger, who reportedly appeared distressed, was seen crying after being slapped, prompting concern and protest from fellow passengers. One cabin crew member can be heard instructing the assailant to stop, while another passenger confronts him, questioning his right to resort to violence. A voice in the video also suggests that the victim may have been experiencing a panic attack at the time.

Upon landing at Kolkata Airport, IndiGo staff handed the accused passenger over to airport security officials. The airline subsequently labelled him as an “unruly passenger,” in accordance with civil aviation norms.

While the exact trigger for the assault remains unclear, IndiGo acknowledged the incident in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “We are aware of an incident involving a physical altercation onboard one of our flights. Our crew followed all standard operating procedures. The individual was declared unruly and handed over to the security authorities upon arrival. All relevant regulatory bodies have been notified.”

Authorities are currently investigating the matter.
