Mumbai Local Train Chaos: Technical Glitch Disrupts Services on Main Line

Mumbai, 13th June 2024: The Mumbai Local Train services on the Mainline of the Mumbai suburban network faced disruptions on Thursday due to a technical issue with the signalling system near Vikhroli station. This incident caused significant overcrowding at various stations and inconvenience for commuters during peak hours. Many passengers expressed frustration over the delays, with some stating that suburban services were behind schedule by 20 to 30 minutes, leading to crowded trains and platforms.

According to railway officials, the problem arose around 7 AM on the UP (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-bound) fast line near Vikhroli station. This resulted in local trains being held up for approximately an hour before the technical glitch was resolved by 8:05 AM.

The disruption prompted some commuters to resort to alternative modes of transportation, including walking along the tracks to reach the next station and continue their journeys. The delays left many commuters displeased and critical of the management of the suburban railway network.

“Central Railway trains are consistently punctual – if you consider being at least 20 minutes late every day as on time. And don’t expect any announcements about platform changes or cancellations; they like to keep things exciting!” Mandar Abhyankar, a commuter, shared on social media.

Another commuter expressed frustration over what they perceived as mismanagement, calling for action from railway authorities and highlighting specific instances of delays.

It’s important to note that Central Railway operates more than 1,800 suburban services daily across Raigad and Thane districts, serving over 30 lakh commuters on its extensive network.
