Mumbai Rain Update: Heavy Showers Lash City! Wall Collapse Incident, Residents Evacuated

Mumbai, 19th August 2025: Continuous heavy rainfall in Mumbai over the past few days has severely disrupted normal life across the city and the state. Mumbai’s lifeline, the suburban railways, has also been affected, leaving commuters stranded. Residents in hilly and slum areas have been particularly distressed due to waterlogging and landslide threats.

In Bhandup (West), the protection wall of Janaki Kutir chawl in Maharashtra Nagar collapsed, forcing the evacuation of four families to safer locations. Similarly, at Chawl No. 1, Kamble Compound, Pratap Nagar Road, Bhandup (West), another wall collapse led to the relocation of two families.

Northeast Mumbai MP Sanjay Dina Patil has been in contact with the MMRDA, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and the District Collector, urging authorities to ensure that the affected families who have received evacuation notices are shifted to secure shelters.

Meanwhile, in Kandivali’s Gautam Nagar area, a tragic incident occurred when a 45-year-old man drowned in floodwaters. Following the incident, fire brigade personnel and Samta Nagar police rushed to the spot, launching a search operation. Rescue teams are currently working to trace the missing individual.
