Mumbai: RPF Seizes Rs 10.5 Crore Railway Tickets in Black Marketing Crackdown

Mumbai, 22nd July 2026: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has intensified its crackdown on the illegal sale and black marketing of railway tickets, registering 1,676 cases over the past five years and seizing railway tickets worth more than ₹10.5 crore, according to information obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The details were accessed by RTI activist Anil Galgali, who said the action highlights the RPF’s sustained efforts to curb ticket touting and illegal ticket sales across the railway network.

According to the data, the RPF registered 309 cases in 2022, 399 in 2023, 502 in 2024—the highest during the five-year period—356 in 2025, and 110 cases up to June 2026.

During the crackdown, authorities seized e-tickets worth ₹9.62 crore and reserved railway tickets worth ₹88.49 lakh, taking the total value of confiscated tickets to over ₹10.50 crore.

The operation also led to the arrest of 1,641 ticket touts, 410 agents, and seven railway employees allegedly involved in the illegal ticketing racket.

Investigations revealed the involvement of some railway staff in ticket black marketing. One railway employee was arrested in 2022, two in 2023, and four in 2024. However, no railway employees were arrested in connection with ticket touting during 2025 or up to June 2026.

RTI activist Anil Galgali said the RPF has been consistently taking effective action against ticket black marketing. He appealed to passengers to avoid purchasing tickets through unauthorized agents or touts, stating that public cooperation is essential to eliminating the illegal ticketing business.
