Mumbai: Water Channel Leak on Jeevan Bima Marg Prompts BMC to Schedule Shutdown on 11th

Mumbai, 10th May 2024: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a scheduled water supply shutdown in multiple areas of A ward lasting for eight hours on Saturday, May 11. This interruption is necessary to address a water channel leakage issue on Jeevan Bima Marg.

The primary leakage in the water channel, spanning a length of 1,200 meters, resulted from ongoing Metro 3 project activities near the Mantralaya Building on Jeevan Bima Marg, according to BMC sources. To rectify this, the water supply will be halted from 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm in Colaba, Koliwada, and Navy Nagar.

Following approval from the traffic department, excavation work to repair the site is scheduled to commence at 9 am on Saturday. Subsequently, repair operations will kick off at 3 pm on the same day, leading to a complete suspension of water supply for eight hours in the designated areas.

Officials identified the issue when the water supply to A ward from the pipeline passing through the Cross Maidan tunnel experienced diminished pressure and volume.

“A thorough inspection revealed the urgent need for repairing the water channel leakage to prevent water wastage and potential road flooding,” stated a BMC bulletin.
