Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances are destroyed by Office of The Principal Commissioner Of Customs (Preventive)

Mumbai, 21 March 2021: The office of the Principal Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), Mumbai conducted a special drive on 19/3/2021 for destruction of seized Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances as well as seized foreign origin Cigarettes. A total of 440 Kgs of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances as well as 19 Metric Tonnes (approx.) of Foreign origin Cigarettes with a cumulative market value of around Rs. 15 Crores were destroyed by way of incineration at Mumbai waste Management facility, Taloja.

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances were destroyed as per provisions of NDPS Act 1985 and included Cocaine, Heroin, Ganja, Ketamine, Metaphetamine, Khat Leaves and DiazapemTablets. These goods had been seized, in various anti-smuggling operations and follow up actions against perpetrators of such crimes, by Directorate of Revenue intelligence (DRI) as well as by various Customs formations under the jurisdiction of Principal Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), Mumbai. Concerned investigating units had completed their investigations in all these cases and fulfilled the legal formalities. A high level Drug disposal Committee headed by Additional Commissioner (Preventive) was constituted for supervision and ensuring compliance of all relevant procedures prescribed under the act and Manual for such destruction.
