Navi Mumbai: Citizens Clean Streets With Brooms In New Initiative By Municipal Corporation
Navi Mumbai, 9th February 2023: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has implemented an initiative in six divisions of the city called ‘citizens initiative for cleanliness, today is the day of honour for sanitation workers.’ It is getting a good response from the citizens of Navi Mumbai. So far, more than 12,500 citizens have participated in this activity and the citizens have come down to the streets and carried out the responsibility of cleanliness in their respective areas with brooms in their hands and have shown their love and sensitivity towards cleanliness.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has got the third rank in the Swachh Survekshan. Therefore, the municipality is aiming to rise from this number to a higher number. If the top rank is obtained, surely everyone will feel proud of the city and its citizens. But if the number falls in the countrywide clean survey, it will not be a good thing for the city. So the municipality is trying to maintain the minimum number or get a higher number. Sunday morning is a public holiday. Citizens of Navi Mumbai have decided to honour sanitation workers’ work by giving a day off to those who wake up early every day and do their duty to clean the city. From 6.30 am, these citizens in different areas of their division, roads. A picture of enthusiastic citizens can be seen on the streets sweeping the footpaths and collecting garbage on Sunday. Navi Mumbaikars are getting a firsthand glimpse of how much the city can do for cleanliness through people’s participation.
Also, it is seen that citizens are broadcasting the cleanliness message through the municipality by holding rallies in various sections.
Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Solid Waste Management Department is seen working at a fast pace for cleanliness. A month ago, however, we could see a picture of a poor sanitation situation in the city. Garbage on the street as well as the cleanliness of the internal areas was a problem. But once again, the citizens are participating in cleanliness through the citizens with speed and enthusiasm. Various units, institutions, schools, colleges, officials of various institutions, and members of various departments participated spontaneously and gave the slogan ‘My Garbage, My Responsibility’ to the sanitation workers for a day off from their work, not only doing their work themselves but giving the message of cleanliness through direct action.
So far, in the Navi Mumbai municipal area, citizens are getting very good participation through this initiative for cleanliness in six department office areas, and this initiative has shown that the clean campaign is not limited to the municipality and employees only but citizens themselves also participate in cleanliness and honour the sanitation workers who clean their city. Due to the good response of the citizens, the city of Navi Mumbai is striving to become even higher in cleanliness in the country.
