Navi Mumbai Recruitment Exam to Proceed as Scheduled Despite Suspension Confusion
Navi Mumbai, 21th July 2026: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has confirmed that its direct recruitment examination will be conducted as scheduled on July 21 and 22, bringing relief to nearly 18,930 candidates after a last-minute proposal to suspend the recruitment process created widespread confusion.
The recruitment drive aims to fill 132 vacancies across Group A, Group B, and Group C posts. During the NMMC General Body meeting on Monday, a proposal was introduced to temporarily halt the recruitment process until a revised recruitment policy giving priority to local youth and project-affected families is implemented.
The proposal came just 24 hours before the scheduled online examination, despite all preparations having been completed and admit cards already being issued to candidates. The development left thousands of aspirants across Maharashtra uncertain about whether the examination would proceed.
NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde informed the General Body that suspending the recruitment process at this stage could have legal consequences. He stated that all administrative, security, and examination arrangements had already been completed. He also clarified that, as a semi-government body, the municipal corporation cannot legally restrict recruitment solely to residents of Navi Mumbai.
Although the General Body passed the suspension proposal, the decision was subsequently kept in abeyance at the government level to prevent inconvenience to candidates. Following this, the municipal corporation issued an official notification confirming that the recruitment examination would be held according to the original schedule.
The announcement has provided significant relief to thousands of candidates, putting an end to uncertainty surrounding the examination while discussions on future recruitment policy and local employment preferences continue.
