Pune Cab Strike Withdrawn: RTA Meeting Scheduled to Address Fare Hike Concerns

Pune, 7th March 2024: A Regional Transport Authority (RTA) meeting regarding the cab fare hike is scheduled to take place on Monday at 4:30 PM. Consequently, the strike initiated by various cab associations in the city over the past two days has been called off as of Wednesday. Cab traffic in the city resumed normalcy in the evening.

The ‘Baghtoy Rickshawala Association has urged cab companies to adhere to the rates fixed by the RTA for metered taxis. However, the cab companies have declined to increase the fares. In response, transport organizations have requested the RTA to take action against the cab companies. The RTA has issued notices to the cab companies, instructing them to provide their comments on the matter. Additionally, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has issued a warning of agitation if the cab companies proceed with fare hikes.

In light of these developments, District Collector Suhas Diwase has decided to convene the RTA meeting on Monday at 11:00 AM to discuss the proposed rate hike. Dr Keshav Kshirsagar, the president of the ‘Baghtoy Rickshawala organization, has appealed to cab drivers to call off the strike in anticipation of a resolution during the meeting. However, if the issue remains unresolved, he has warned of protests starting Monday.

During the RTA meeting, discussions will cover the potential increase in cab fares and other related issues. Regional Transport Officer Sanjeev Bhor has urged everyone to maintain harmony until a resolution is reached in the meeting.
