‘Suryarath’ Campaign to Promote Rooftop Solar Rolls into Pune on July 26

Pune, 23rd July 2026: A mobile awareness campaign titled ‘Suryarath’ will be launched in Chikhali on July 26 to encourage more households to install rooftop solar panels under the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol will inaugurate the campaign. The initiative is being organised by the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) in association with PwC and Energiva Ventures as part of the government’s rooftop solar scheme, which aims to provide free electricity to one crore households across the country.

The specially designed Suryarath will travel across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad over the next eight days, visiting housing societies, major junctions and residential areas to create awareness about rooftop solar power. A team of experts accompanying the vehicle will educate residents about the benefits of solar energy and provide on-the-spot guidance on government subsidies, bank loan facilities and the online registration process.

Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, households installing rooftop solar systems with a capacity of 1 kW to 3 kW are eligible for direct subsidies ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 78,000. Housing societies can avail a subsidy of Rs 18,000 per kilowatt for common electricity usage.

Organisers said the campaign aims to encourage wider adoption of rooftop solar systems by highlighting the potential to significantly reduce or eliminate household electricity bills. Local public representatives and senior officials of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) are expected to attend the launch event in Chikhali.
