Thane Crime Branch Arrests Three for Smuggling 5.6 kg of Ambergris Valued at Rs 6.20 Crore

Thane, 30th September 2024: The Kalyan unit of the Thane crime branch in Maharashtra has arrested three individuals and seized 5.6 kg of ambergris, also known as whale vomit, valued at ₹6.20 crore, officials reported on Saturday. The arrested individuals have been identified as Anil Bhosale, Ankush Shankar Mali, and Laxman Shankar Patil.
According to police, the crime branch received intelligence that the accused were attempting to smuggle ambergris from Pipeline Road to Badlapur using a car. Acting on this information, authorities launched a search operation, successfully apprehending the suspects and seizing the contraband.
The three suspects have been placed in police custody until Tuesday, and further investigation into the case is ongoing, police added.
