Thane: Electric Motorbike Battery Explodes, Injuring Three and Damaging Homes

Thane, 20th March 2024: In Thane district of Maharashtra, two women and a man sustained injuries following an explosion of an electric motorbike battery within a residence, as reported by civic officials on Wednesday. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, resulted in the collapse of the house’s roof and its common wall with an adjacent property in the Shanti Nagar locality of Kalwa area, stated Yasin Tadvi, the chief of Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell.
The battery, housed in a chawl (row tenement), exploded around 10:30 pm, causing significant damage. It remains unclear whether the battery was being charged at the time of the explosion.
The blast caused injuries to a 28-year-old woman residing in the affected house, as well as a 66-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman from the neighbouring property.
Prompt response from local firefighters and the disaster management team ensued upon receiving the alert. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to the civic-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa for medical attention.
An investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the explosion, as authorities strive to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
