Thane Lok Sabha Seat: 11 Nominations Rejected, Including Retired Medical Officer’s VBA Candidacy

Thane, 6th May 2024: In Thane, district election officials reported that 11 nominations for the Thane Lok Sabha seat, including that of a retired Thane municipal medical health officer contesting on a VBA ticket, were rejected during scrutiny, with the information conveyed late on Saturday.

Until 3 PM on the deadline day for filing nominations, which was Friday, approximately 43 nominations had been submitted. These nominations underwent scrutiny by a designated team until late evening, resulting in 11 being deemed invalid.

Among those rejected was the nomination of Dr. Ram Kendre (VBA), who previously served as the Medical Officer of Health at the Thane corporation until 2021, along with nominations from seven independent candidates and others.

Consequently, the electoral contest for the seat will now feature 25 candidates, some of whom have submitted multiple nomination forms. Notable contenders include Shiv Sena candidate Naresh Mhaske and UBT candidate Rajan Vichare.

Officials further informed that the deadline for withdrawing names from the polls is May 6.
