Thane Municipal Corporation Introduces Mobile Immersion Vehicles for Ganesh Chaturthi
Thane, 3rd September 2024: To improve convenience and ease crowding during Ganesh Chaturthi, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) will deploy mobile vehicles equipped with water tanks for the immersion of Lord Ganesha’s idols. This initiative, led by TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao, aims to offer residents a more accessible and efficient immersion process.
The mobile units will visit various neighbourhoods, allowing people to immerse their idols locally after completing their religious ceremonies, thus avoiding the need to travel to busy immersion sites.
The Ganesh Chaturthi festival, starting on September 7, involves the installation of idols both in homes and public places throughout Maharashtra.
Six mobile vehicles will operate on key immersion dates: September 8, 12, and 14. Each vehicle, equipped with a water tank, will facilitate the immersion process before transporting the remains to designated artificial lakes and other immersion locations.
Additionally, the TMC has established nine ghats, 15 artificial ponds, ten idol acceptance centres, and 49 tank immersion systems across the city to manage the immersion process.
Rao mentioned on Monday that this new mobile immersion service will decentralize the process, reduce congestion, and enhance convenience for devotees.
