Thane: Neral Man Arrested for Defrauding Multiple Women by Promising Marriage

Thane, 24th July 2024: Neral police have taken into custody 33-year-old Sumit Saini for allegedly defrauding multiple women out of significant sums of money by promising marriage. This arrest follows a complaint lodged by a 35-year-old woman, and the police had been tracking Saini’s activities for several days before his apprehension.
Authorities reveal that Saini, a known offender, deceived numerous women concurrently by creating fraudulent profiles on matrimonial sites and social media. In one case from July, he targeted a well-earning resident of Neral.
According to the complainant, Saini initially contacted her via a matrimonial website last year. Their relationship developed through regular communication, during which Saini professed his feelings and pressured her for physical intimacy. He coerced her into sending intimate photos and requested money under various pretences related to his personal or family needs. The woman later discovered Saini was already married and had misrepresented his identity on the site.
The woman promptly reported the matter to Neral police, where Police Inspector Shivaji Dhavle and Investigating Officer Police Sub-Inspector Prachi Pange acted swiftly. They secured technical details of Saini, leading to his arrest within two days of the complaint.
A police spokesperson noted, “Our investigation revealed that Saini’s modus operandi involved deceiving and extorting money from multiple women simultaneously. He created fake profiles with altered images and details for each victim, exploiting them for substantial amounts of money.”
Saini is currently in police custody for the next two days as further evidence is being collected against him.
