Thane: Newborn Baby Found Dead in Ambernath Duct Area, Investigation Underway

Thane, 22nd November 2024: A newborn baby girl was found dead in the ground-floor duct area of a residential building in Ambernath (West), Thane district, on the morning of November 21. The baby, only a day old, was confirmed deceased by a local doctor.

Residents of Shankar Heights alerted the police, who quickly began investigating the case. A female resident has been questioned regarding the incident. The infant’s body was sent to a government hospital for a postmortem.

According to a resident, the CCTV cameras in the area were not functional, hindering the investigation and leaving the authorities without immediate clues.

Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhre mentioned that initial findings suggest the baby may have been born to an unmarried mother overnight.

To assist with the investigation, police are checking delivery records from nearby hospitals and conducting DNA tests on individuals suspected of being the parents. Two female tenants were briefly questioned but later released.

Inspector Pandhre emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with the team awaiting the preliminary report from the hospital to determine the cause of death. He assured that they are handling this sensitive case with the utmost care and are dedicated to seeking justice for the infant.
