Thane Police and Rescue Teams Save Elderly Couple from Suicide Attempt

Thane, 30th December 2024: Thane police and municipal rescue teams successfully prevented an elderly couple from committing suicide in their seventh-floor apartment on Ghodbunder Road late Wednesday night.
The couple, aged 70 and 60, had isolated themselves in their flat due to deteriorating health, prompting their nephew in Bengaluru to raise the alarm.
Yasin Tadvi, head of the Thane regional disaster management cell, reported that the emergency call was made around 11 pm by the Kasarwadavli police. When rescuers arrived, they found the couple in the process of preparing to take their own lives.
“The elderly couple had sent a message to their nephew about their intention to commit suicide, prompting him to inform the local authorities,” Tadvi explained.
Senior Inspector Sunil Patil stated that the police team acted swiftly, reaching the apartment within ten minutes and coordinating with the fire brigade to access the flat.
“Rescue teams initially attempted to enter from a neighbouring apartment while another team broke open the main door when no one answered. Once inside, they discovered the couple about to end their lives. A delay of just a few minutes could have resulted in a tragic outcome,” Tadvi added.
