Thane: Police Confirm Law and Order Restored in Bhiwandi After Clash During Ganesh Idol Immersion

Thane, 21st September 2024: The law and order situation in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, has stabilized following a clash between two groups during the Ganesh idol immersion, a senior police officer stated on Friday.
The altercation reportedly began after stones were thrown, causing tension in the town, which prompted police intervention.
Mohan Dahikar, who has taken over as the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) from Dr Srikant Paropkari, confirmed that the situation is now under control. Dr Paropkari was recently reassigned to the Thane police headquarters.
In a public video message, Dahikar assured that an impartial investigation would be conducted, and those responsible for the incident would face appropriate action. He also urged the public not to be swayed by rumours.
Bhiwandi MP Suresh Mhatre expressed his concern on Thursday regarding DCP Paropkariās transfer. Mhatre stated that while the altercation between the two Ganesh mandals over the sequence of idol immersion was regrettable, the police managed the overall situation during the festival effectively. He added that Dr Paropkari’s sudden transfer could send the wrong message and mentioned his intention to raise the issue with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
