Thane Traffic Police Fine 102 Motorists For Drinking And Driving

Thane, 3rd January 2023: The Traffic Department of the Thane Police took action against 102 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol in a special inspection campaign conducted in Kalyan, Dombivli and Kolsewadi on the occasion of New Year in the last two days. The traffic department has collected a total fine of Rs 3,28,000 from the drivers of various vehicles violating the traffic rules.

The transport department appealed to the public to not drink and drive on the occasion of New Year’s Eve. Still, many motorists were found to be drinking and driving. As traffic rules are likely to be violated, Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Tarde of Kalyan West Traffic Division, Senior Police Inspector of Kolsewadi Traffic Division Ravindra Kshirsagar, Police Inspector of Dombivli Traffic Division Umesh Gitte, with the help of 80 traffic policemen, conducted a special vehicle inspection campaign in their areas for two days and at night time.

In this investigation, it was revealed that 49 people in Kalyan West, 35 in Kalyan East and 18 in Dombivli were driving under the influence of alcohol. Punitive and judicial action was taken against these vehicle drivers, Tarde said. A total of 1,200 vehicles were checked over two days.

The blockade was imposed at Shivaji Chowk, Subhash Chowk, and Mahatma Phule Chowk in Kalyan West. In the Kolsewadi traffic area, vehicles were blocked and checked at Tata Naka, Chakki Naka, Tisgaon, Katai area, Shelar Naka, Manpada road, Phadke road, Thakurli Bridge area in Dombivli. The action was taken against the drivers for driving without wearing helmets, talking on mobile while driving, and not wearing seat belts.
