Thane: Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation Lists 263 Dangerous Buildings, Flags Urgent Safety Concerns

Thane, 8th May 2025: The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation has released a new list identifying 263 buildings as dangerous, highlighting significant safety risks for thousands of residents ahead of the monsoon season. The civic body’s latest survey found that two buildings- one in Ward 2 and one in Ward 4- are classified as extremely dangerous, with immediate evacuation recommended, while 208 buildings require structural repairs without evacuation, and 37 buildings need repairs after being vacated.
The list also reveals that 51 buildings have not yet undergone structural audits, raising further safety concerns for occupants. In recent years, Ulhasnagar has witnessed several incidents of slab collapses in old, dilapidated buildings, resulting in fatalities and injuries. Despite annual audits and warnings, many residents continue to live in hazardous structures as redevelopment projects remain stalled.
The civic administration has reiterated its annual appeal for residents to vacate unsafe buildings and has called for urgent structural audits and repairs to prevent further tragedies. The ongoing issue of dangerous and illegal constructions in Ulhasnagar has prompted both state and municipal authorities to push for redevelopment and stricter enforcement of building safety norms.
