Thane: Violence Erupts in Naya Nagar, Thane Police Vigilant Against Social Media Incitement

Mira Bhayandar, 25th January 2024: Violence erupted between two groups in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road, prompting heightened vigilance from Thane City Police. The incident has led to increased scrutiny of social media channels by law enforcement, aiming to curb the spread of divisive messages.

In response to the recent clash, Thane city police have elevated their alertness levels, closely monitoring social media platforms for any content that could exacerbate tensions or incite violence. The police are proactively taking measures to prevent the escalation of the situation.

Taking a stern stance against those spreading offensive content on social media, the Thane police have initiated direct legal action. A case has been registered against a 19-year-old boy from Mumbra who circulated a religiously divisive message on his Instagram account. The police, acting swiftly, detained the individual and filed a complaint at the Mumbra police station.

The 19-year-old from Mumbra is now facing legal consequences under sections 295A (Deliberate and Malicious Acts Intended to Outrage Religious Feelings) and 153A (Promoting Enmity between Different Groups on Grounds of Religion, Race, Place of Birth, Residence, Language, etc., and Doing Acts Prejudicial to Maintenance of Harmony). These sections pertain to deliberately and maliciously hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity between different groups, respectively. The police’s prompt action underscores their commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.
