Thane: Water Stagnation Witnessed In Dombivli MIDC

Thane, 23rd March 2023: The residential area in the industrial area of Dombivli has been getting a low-pressure water supply for a few months now. On Thursday morning, many societies and bungalows in Milapnagar, Sudarshannagar, did not get water. Since last week, there has been an acute water shortage in Regency Anantham, Regency Sankul, and Davadi. Last week Industries Minister Uday Samant had given orders to MIDC, Municipal officials that abundant water should be supplied to 27 village limits. Last week, Industry Minister Samant raided Sandap and other areas in 27 village limits at night time to catch water distribution irregularities and thefts. After this incident, MIDC officials registered cases against more than 15 water thieves.

Despite all this happening, MIDC, 27 villages, and large housing complexes in this area suffer from water shortage, and the residents are uneasy. Residents are raising questions about enough water coming into the house for the whole day, and then suddenly where did this water go for a few months? The residents of MIDC, Davadi area, took out a march to the Dombivli office of MIDC two days ago and asked the authorities to answer the water shortage. The residents informed that there was no drop of water in any of the bungalows in the hospital area. The residents of the Regency Anantham Complex have written to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding the water shortage and demanded attention to this important issue. Residents are saying that this is a result of the controversy among the local people’s representatives.

A group of tanker mafia is active in 27 village limits supplying water. Residents say that this group is creating artificial water scarcity in the area. The main water line of the MIDC should be pierced and the water is taken away in a well dug near the house or in a Kupanlik. They used to sell the water to the locality through tankers at a high rate. This business of selling water has been started for two years in 27 village limits. This tanker mafia arranges to disrupt the water supply by throwing stones and sacks of cement into the water supply channel to the housing complexes. The residents said that when the water shortage started, they sell water tankers from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 per litre as the residents need water.

The laying of new channels from Katai towards MIDC is underway. This work will be completed in the next two months. Executive Engineer of MIDC Shankar Awad informed the delegation of MIDC that there will be a smooth supply of water to the area in case of shortage.
