Tinder Date Turns into Scam at Thane Hotel: Man Faces Rs 44,829 Bill Shock
Thane, 4th July 2024: A man’s evening out with a Tinder date turned into a distressing ordeal when he found himself ensnared in a scam involving both his date and the restaurant. According to a Reddit post by user “Rude-Interview-8393,” during a dinner at Hotel de Grandeur in Thane’s Royal Plaza Building, he received an exorbitant bill amounting to ₹ 44,829.
The detailed breakdown included charges for 18 Jagerbombs, two Red Bulls, French fries, salted peanuts, four chocolate truffle cakes, and a special mix, all dated June 12.
Shocked by the bill, the man contacted the police, who managed to reduce the amount to ₹ 4,000, leaving him with a substantial payment of ₹ 40,000.
The Reddit post, shared on July 2, has garnered over 1,400 upvotes, drawing widespread attention and concern from online users.
One commenter expressed disbelief, stating, “That bill amount matches my monthly salary.”
Another user advised, “You should consider filing an FIR. There have been recent cases exposing similar scams in cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, and others. This could help in getting your money back and seeking justice.”
The legitimacy of the charges was questioned by others, with one user speculating, “Were all those 18 Jagerbombs ordered? Is there CCTV footage to verify? It’s challenging to prove such scams without solid evidence.”
Reflecting on the implausibility of consuming 18 Jagerbombs, another user remarked, “Who could drink 18 Jagerbomb shots? That alone raises suspicions. Can’t they pursue fraud charges against the restaurant?”
The incident underscores the risks involved in social encounters and dining out, prompting discussions on safeguards against such fraudulent practices.
