Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Life Of Mumbai Teen At Chinchoti Falls, Vasai

Vasai, 14th July 2023: Today, an 18-year-old boy named Sumit Radheshyam Yadav tragically lost his life while taking a stroll near the picturesque Chinchoti Falls in Vasai. This unfortunate incident marks the fifth drowning case reported in the region during this monsoon season, shedding light on the inherent dangers of tourist hotspots during heavy rains. Authorities had previously banned access to such areas due to the increased risk.

According to police, Sumit, a resident of Vileparle, Mumbai, had ventured to the Chinchoti Falls on Thursday afternoon, accompanied by four of his friends. Tempted by the allure of the river below the falls, Sumit decided to swim. However, unaware of the depth of the water, he started drowning.

The locals, alerted by Sumit’s friends, immediately rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue him. But despite their efforts, Sumit could not be saved. The Naigaon police station subsequently registered a case of accidental death in relation to this incident. The Police sub-inspector, Gajanan Zinkalwad, of Naigaon police station informed that the body would be handed over to the victim’s family after the post-mortem.

“Sumit left the house, saying he was going to the temple with his friends for darshan. After that, he went to the waterfall at Chinchoti. We are not getting why he went into the water as he did not know how to swim,” puzzled Sumit’s brother, Pintu Yadav.
