113 COVID Cases Recorded In India So Far As XBB.1.16 Variant Mutates Further

New Delhi, 8th April 2023: According to reports from India Today, the recently identified recombinant coronavirus variant XBB.1.16 is mutating and an offshoot subtype, XBB.1.16.1, has been found in India.
There have been 113 cases of this subtype documented so far across the nation, with Gujarat and Maharashtra accounting for the majority of cases.
The most prevalent Omicron sublineage among all other Omicron variants is XBB. In India, 400 novel Omicron sub-variants have been found in the past 15 months. Ninety per cent of all variants are XBB.
The most recent INSACOG advisory states that 38.2% of all Covid infections in India to date have been caused by the XBB.1.16 strain.
Similar to its parent Omicron strain, XBB.1.16 exhibits the following symptoms: fever, cough, cold, runny nose, headache, body soreness, gastrointestinal pain, and diarrhoea.
According to data from the Union health ministry, today (April 8), India reported 6,155 new COVID-19 infections, while the total number of active cases rose to 31,194.
The current cases are 31,194. The health ministry website states that the national COVID-19 recovery rate is 98.74%.
4,41,89,111 persons have successfully recovered from the illness, with a 1.19 per cent case fatality rate.
On the ministry’s website, it is stated that the nationwide vaccination campaign has so far administered 220.66 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
