15-Day-Old Baby Abandoned on CSMT-Panvel Local; Police Launch Hunt for Absconding Mother

Navi Mumbai , 2nd July 2025: In a disturbing incident, a 15-day-old baby boy was abandoned by an unidentified woman on a Panvel-bound local train at Seawoods station on Monday afternoon. The woman is currently absconding, and police have launched a search to trace her.
According to the Vashi Railway Police, the woman, believed to be in her early 30s to mid-30s, boarded the train at Sanpada station and approached two young women Divya Naidu (19) from Juinagar and her friend Bhumika Mane for help. She claimed she had the baby and luggage and needed assistance to alight at Seawoods.
At Seawoods station, the woman handed over the infant to the duo, asking them to hold the baby while she gathered her belongings. However, she never got off the train and vanished as the train moved on. Initially thinking she missed her stop due to heavy baggage, Divya and Bhumika waited but soon realized the woman had deliberately abandoned the child.
They took the baby home, cared for him temporarily, and then reported the matter to the Vashi Railway Police Station. The infant was shifted to a local hospital, where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Doctors have confirmed that the baby’s condition is stable.
A case has been registered under Section 93 of the Indian Penal Code for exposing a child under 12 years of age with the intent to abandon. Police have formed four search teams and are scanning CCTV footage from the stations, though several cameras were found non-functional, hampering the investigation.
Preliminary leads suggest the woman may be from the Khandesh region. Authorities have appealed to citizens to contact Vashi Railway Police with any information regarding the mother’s identity.
