26/11 Anniversary False Alarm: Mumbai Police Probes Misleading Terrorist Sighting

Mumbai, 27th November 2023: On the 15th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Mumbai Police received a call reporting the sighting of two terrorists in the Mankhurd area. The caller claimed that the individuals were speaking in an unknown language and seemed to be plotting something, prompting the police to launch a search operation in the specified area.

However, the investigation revealed that the information provided in the call was false. The caller, identified as Kishore Laxman Nanavare, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Nanavare claimed that he had given his mobile phone number to someone while returning home after consuming alcohol at Vijay Bar.

The Mumbai Police has received over a hundred messages or phone calls containing threats and false information in the past year. Despite the challenges in addressing such cases, the police investigate each one thoroughly. Officials suggest the need for a more stringent law to deal with individuals providing false information or making threats, as existing laws may result in early bail for the accused. The incident highlights the importance of accurate reporting, especially on sensitive occasions like the anniversary of significant events.
