Mumbai: Mystery Surrounds Doctor’s Disappearance: Kinjal Kantilal Shah’s Jump from Atal Setu Bridge Spurs Police Efforts

Navi Mumbai, 20th March 2024: The Nhava Sheva police, in collaboration with coastal and Mumbai police units, have initiated a search operation following the tragic incident involving a 43-year-old woman, identified as Kinjal Kantilal Shah, who, being a doctor by profession, jumped from the newly constructed Atal Setu bridge on Monday. Despite concerted efforts, she has not yet been located amidst the vast expanse of the sea.

Kinjal’s father, Kantilal, reported her disappearance to the Bhoiwada police in Dadar, triggering an investigation into the matter. Describing her as battling a prolonged illness and grappling with depression for several years, the police filed a missing complaint and launched a thorough inquiry.

Upon discovering a suicide note at Kinjal’s residence, her family promptly alerted the authorities. Surveillance footage revealed Kinjal’s departure from home at 1:30 pm on Monday, boarding a taxi from the Shindewadi area in Dadar, and ultimately arriving at the Atal Setu bridge. Subsequently, she disembarked from the taxi near the bridge and leapt into the sea, prompting the taxi driver to notify the police.

Efforts to locate Kinjal have involved coordination with the motor vehicle department, which deployed a rescue boat for deep-sea searches, along with notifying all coastal police stations to remain vigilant for any potential sightings. Despite rigorous search endeavours, Kinjal remains unaccounted for at this time.

Meanwhile, senior police inspector Rajendra Kote Patil of the Nhava Sheva police station affirmed ongoing efforts, including statements from witnesses and relatives, as the search operation persists.

Quick intervention from workers stationed beneath the bridge ensured her prompt rescue and safe reunion with her family, underscoring the significance of timely assistance in critical situations.
