Navi Mumbai: Cyber Gang Deceives 67-Year-Old Ex-RBI Banker, Drains Rs 4.40 Crore in Fake Share Investment Scheme

Navi Mumbai, 13th July 2024: A 67-year-old retired banker from RBI, Sucheta Arun Paudwal, lost Rs 4.40 crore after falling victim to a cyber scam promising lucrative returns through share investments. The entire savings intended for her retired life, along with her husband’s, were deceived by the cyber gang.

Living in Kharghar, Sucheta Arun Paudwal, a former RBI manager, searched online last April for investment opportunities in shares to increase her earnings. She inadvertently clicked on a link that led her to a fraudulent firm, prompting her to enter personal details. Subsequently, she was added to a WhatsApp group orchestrated by the scammers.

Witnessing others in the group profiting from stock market trading, she initially invested Rs 50,000. Encouraged by what seemed like profitable trades, she continued buying and selling shares based on the gang’s instructions. At one point, she was allowed to withdraw Rs 5.93 lakh, which bolstered her confidence in the scheme.
