Mumbai Coastal Road to Operate Daily from 7 AM to 12 AM Starting This Saturday, BMC Confirms

Mumbai, 21st September 2024: Starting this Saturday, the Mumbai Coastal Road will be open for vehicles all seven days of the week, from 7 AM to 12 AM, as announced by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday.
Currently, the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), a high-speed corridor, is partially functional. The southbound section operates from Worli to Nariman Point, while the northbound stretch runs from South Mumbai to Bandra. Until now, the southbound arm has been accessible throughout the week, while the northbound section was only open Monday through Friday, from 7 AM to 11 PM.
Earlier this month, during Ganeshotsav, the BMC temporarily extended the corridor’s hours, keeping it open 24/7 between September 7 (Ganesh Chaturthi) and September 18 (Anant Chaturdashi). This decision was made after the Mumbai traffic police requested continuous access to accommodate the increased traffic during the festival.
On Friday, the BMC confirmed that vehicles will now have unrestricted access to both the southbound route—from Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk, Lotus Junction, and Amarson Park to Marine Drive—and the northbound section every day of the week.
Additionally, the “bow-string” arch bridge, which links the MCRP to the Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL), was partially inaugurated on September 12 by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. This bridge serves only northbound traffic, allowing vehicles to merge directly onto the sea link without passing through the Worli interchange.
According to a senior BMC official, 92% of the current phase of the MCRP is completed. The road will remain closed during nighttime hours to finish the remaining civil works, with full operations expected to begin by December.
