Liquor Sales Banned in Mumbai on November 18, 19, 20, and 23 Due to Election Protocol
Mumbai, 16th November 2024: Mumbai, the financial hub of India, will face several dry days in the upcoming weeks of November due to the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections.
According to an order from the Election Commission of India (ECI), liquor sales will be banned across Mumbai and other cities to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections. Dry days are specific days when the sale of alcohol is completely prohibited, typically during significant national, religious, or cultural events, as well as on election days and vote-counting days to maintain order.
The Election Commission has scheduled voting for November 20, when all 288 Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra will vote in a single phase.
Earlier, Mumbai, along with cities like Thane and Pune, observed a dry day on November 12 for Kartik Ekadashi.
The following are the upcoming dry days in Mumbai:
– November 18: Liquor sales will be banned after 6 pm.
– November 19: A full dry day will be observed, a day before the Assembly elections.
– November 20: Liquor sales will be prohibited until 6 pm on voting day.
– November 23: Liquor sales will remain banned until 6 pm, as the Election Commission will announce the results.
Additionally, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for all employees working within its jurisdiction on November 20, to ensure that people have the opportunity to vote. BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani warned that strict action will be taken against any employer violating the order. Employees taking leave on that day will not face any salary deductions or penalties.
