Airbag Deployment Leads to Death of Six-Year-Old in Navi Mumbai’s Vashi Area

Navi Mumbai, 25th December 2024: A six-year-old boy tragically passed away after being struck by an airbag that was deployed during an accident in Navi Mumbai’s Vashi area. The child was sitting in the front seat when a vehicle ahead of their car collided with a median and landed on their car’s bonnet.
The boy was travelling with his father and two cousins in a Wagon R, heading towards Koparkhairane. When the accident occurred, the airbags of their car were deployed. Initial findings suggest that the airbag likely saved the driver, but the one on the passenger side, where the boy was seated, ruptured upon impact, causing the child to lose consciousness.
Bystanders pulled the boy out of the vehicle and rushed him to Vashi General Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. Doctors indicated that the cause of death appeared to be suffocation, possibly triggered by the sudden deployment of the airbag. Further investigation is ongoing, according to Assistant Police Inspector Deepak Gavit.
