Mumbai Waterlogged Within An Hour! Intense Rain Disrupts Daily Life; Leaves Mumbaikars Frustrated

Mumbai, 26th May 2025: Mumbai witnessed severe waterlogging within an hour of heavy rainfall on Monday (26th May) morning, causing widespread disruption to road and rail traffic. Commuters, especially office-goers, faced major hardships as key areas like King’s Circle, Dadar, Grant Road, Sion, and Andheri Subway were submerged under 1.5 to 2 feet of water.

The downpour, which began late Sunday (25th May) night, intensified early Monday, flooding roads and subways. The Andheri Subway was shut, and many roads in the suburbs turned into streams, raising questions over the pre-monsoon drainage cleanup by civic authorities.

Multiple BEST bus routes were diverted due to waterlogging. Buses were rerouted from Gandhi Market, Sion, Wadala, and Hindmata, severely affecting connectivity. According to BEST officials, routes No 117 and 174 were diverted through Wadala Church from 9 am, while routes 40, 212, and 386 were diverted from Sharda Cinema after 9:30 am. Routes 341 and 312 had to turn back due to water accumulation on Sion Road No. 24.

Rainfall data from 8:00 to 9:00 am revealed high-intensity showers across the city:

– Santacruz (Betel Nut Tank,) – 25 mm

– Khar Danda, Pali Hill – 24 mm

– Bandra West – 18 mm

– Vile Parle – 15 mm

– Chembur – 13 mm

– Sewri Koliwada – 12 mm

– Andheri & Malvani – 12 mm

– Versova – 11 mm

It seen that commuters moved through knee-deep water near train stations, struggling with their way, while stagnant water slowed down both pedestrian and vehicle movement. Authorities warn that if the rain continues, further overflowing and flooding may occur, especially with more showers expected in the next few hours.
