Central Railway Holds 126th ZRUCC Meeting; Highlights Passenger Amenities, Security Upgrades, and Infrastructure Milestones

Mumbai, 05th June 2025: Central Railway conducted the 126th Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) meeting at its headquarters at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai, chaired by Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager, Central Railway. The meeting was attended by 44 ZRUCC members, including Members of Parliament Dnyaneshwar Raosaheb Patil, Varsha Eknath Gaikwad, and Anup Sanjay Dhotre.
In his address, General Manager Meena emphasized the importance of feedback from ZRUCC members in enhancing passenger services. He acknowledged the efforts of railway personnel and detailed the improvements made to passenger amenities, including modernized waiting rooms, upgraded toilets, additional seating, drinking water booths, lifts, escalators, mobile charging stations, and digital display boards.
Central Railway operates 383 Mail/Express and 142 Passenger/MEMU/DEMU trains daily, serving around 5.5 lakh passengers. Premium offerings include 10 Vande Bharat trains and the newly introduced Amrit Bharat Express from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Saharsa. Under the Amrit Station Scheme, 98 stations are being redeveloped, with 12 stations inaugurated by the Prime Minister on May 22, 2025.
In suburban operations, Central Railway runs 1,810 services in Mumbai Division and 42 in Pune Division, catering to 38.2 lakh passengers daily. The number of air-conditioned services in Mumbai has increased to 80, improving commuter convenience.
Regarding safety and security, over 5,200 CCTV cameras have been installed in suburban coaches, and 2,693 cameras in Vande Bharat, DEMU, and LHB coaches. Emergency Talk Back Systems are now operational in ladies coaches of 161 EMU rakes. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) saved 73 lives and reunited 1,463 missing children in the past year. QR code-based payments and Digital Divyangjan ID cards have also been introduced to simplify ticketing.
Central Railway reported infrastructure achievements including 316 km of doubling/multi-tracking and 72.5 route km of electrification completed in FY 2024–25. The zone also commissioned 17 Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), 31 Road Over Bridges (ROBs), 92 Road Under Bridges (RUBs), and closed 31 level crossings.
Under the ‘One Station One Product’ initiative, 161 stalls recorded sales of over ₹8.74 crore in local products. Central Railway’s waterproof point machine won first prize among zonal railways, and its Real-Time Water Level Notifier secured second place for innovation.
Central Railway was recently conferred six departmental shields at the Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar 2024 in New Delhi, including the Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Overall Efficiency Shield for best overall performance.
Members of Parliament present raised constituency-related concerns, which were addressed by railway officials. ZRUCC members also provided input on the Amrit Bharat Station Project, suggested improvements in passenger amenities, and proposed new train services and stoppages. The General Manager assured members that all suggestions would be reviewed in detail for possible implementation.
