Mumbai: Railways Plans Automatic Doors for 238 Mumbai Local Trains
Mumbai/New Delhi, 17th December 2025: The Ministry of Railways has informed Parliament that capacity augmentation and safety-related works are being undertaken on the Mumbai suburban rail network. As part of these measures, procurement is in progress for automatic door systems to be installed in 238 new suburban trains.
According to the information placed before the Lok Sabha, the introduction of automatic door closing systems is part of ongoing efforts related to passenger safety and operational improvements in the suburban network.
The ministry has also reported the addition of new train stoppages in the Palghar region to improve passenger connectivity. The Bandra (T)–Bhuj Kutch Express (22955/22956) has been provided a stoppage at Palghar station with effect from May 17, 2025. The Sri Ganganagar–Dadar Express (12489/12490) began stopping at Palghar from May 18, 2025. In addition, the Bandra (T)–Ahmedabad Lokshakti Express (22927/22928) has been given a stoppage at Saphale station with effect from September 4, 2025.
Data shared in the Lok Sabha shows that Palghar station is currently served by a total of 104 train services. These include 46 Mail and Express trains, 16 Passenger trains and 42 suburban services. Boisar station is served by 99 train services, comprising 41 Mail and Express trains, 16 Passenger trains and 42 suburban services.
The detailed list of trains serving Palghar and Boisar stations was also provided as part of the parliamentary reply, outlining the range of long-distance and suburban services operating through these stations.
The information was submitted by the Ministry of Railways in response to a question related to infrastructure development, train services and passenger facilities on the Mumbai suburban rail network.
