Mumbai: 30-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Locked Palghar Flat; Husband Missing, Police Probe Suspicious Death

Palghar, 26th August 2026: A 30-year-old woman was found dead in a decomposed state inside a locked flat in Palghar after her family was unable to contact her for three days. The incident was reported from the Ghodele Garden area near the old Satpati Road, triggering a police investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Pooja Chandan Mishra, who lived with her husband, Chandan Mishra, in Flat No. 201 on the second floor of the Funnel building. The couple had reportedly been married for around six years. Pooja worked for a private company.

According to her brother, Pradeep Kumar Mishra, he had been trying to contact Pooja since the night of August 22. Initially, she did not answer his calls, and her mobile phone was later switched off. After being unable to contact her for two days, Pradeep travelled from Surat to Palghar on August 24.

When he reached the flat, he found the door locked from outside. He also noticed a strong foul smell coming from inside the house. Pradeep subsequently contacted the police through the emergency helpline 112.

Police personnel, including Pravin Patil and Rajesh Waizade, reached the spot and broke open the lock. Pooja’s decomposed body was found in the bedroom.

Cause of death yet to be established

During the preliminary examination, police reportedly noticed bleeding from the woman’s nose and mouth. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been established.

The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and police are awaiting the forensic and autopsy findings to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

Palghar Police have registered an accidental death report and are conducting further investigation based on the scene-of-crime examination, statements of relatives and the post-mortem report.

Husband missing

Pooja’s husband, Chandan Mishra, was reportedly not present at the flat and is currently being traced by police. The circumstances surrounding the locked flat and his absence have prompted further investigation.

Pooja’s brother has alleged that Chandan was addicted to alcohol and that the couple frequently had disputes. He also alleged that Pooja had been subjected to physical assault.

Pradeep has further alleged that his sister may have been killed by her husband, who allegedly locked the flat from outside before fleeing. However, police have not yet confirmed the allegations, and the exact circumstances of Pooja’s death will be established only after the investigation and post-mortem findings.

Police are now examining the sequence of events leading up to Pooja’s death and searching for her husband as part of the ongoing probe.
