MMRDA Showcases Mumbai Metro Network, Mega Projects To Belgian PM
Mumbai, 7th September 2026: Mumbai’s rapidly expanding infrastructure network was showcased to Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever during his visit to the city, with MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee briefing him on the region’s major Metro corridors and infrastructure projects.
The interaction took place at the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), where Mukherjee presented De Wever with MMRDA’s coffee-table book showcasing the authority’s work across Metro connectivity, mobility, urban infrastructure and metropolitan planning.
Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Mukherjee said he walked the Belgian Prime Minister through MMRDA’s projects, including its corridors and Metro network.
The meeting also highlighted Mumbai’s larger transformation into a globally competitive economic and business hub, while providing an opportunity to discuss possible avenues for greater institutional exchange and collaboration between India and Belgium.
MMRDA’s infrastructure plans cover a wide network of Metro corridors and road projects aimed at improving connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The authority’s Metro master plan includes corridors connecting areas such as Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Mira Road, Borivali, Virar and Badlapur, among others.
BKC itself is an important part of Mumbai’s infrastructure and commercial landscape. Developed as an alternative commercial centre to decongest South Mumbai, the business district is now connected by Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) as well as major road links including the SCLR Extension and BKC-Worli Connector.
The MMRDA has also been working on a range of road, tunnel, flyover and connectivity projects across the region. Its broader infrastructure programme aims to strengthen east-west and north-south connectivity, improve access to Mumbai’s airports and provide faster public transport links.
The meeting came during De Wever’s India visit, as India and Belgium look to expand cooperation across areas including trade, investment, defence, technology, clean energy and connectivity. India and Belgium also agreed earlier this month to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several strategic sectors.
For Mumbai, the interaction offered an opportunity to put the city’s infrastructure transformation on an international platform, showcasing how its expanding Metro network, road corridors and large-scale urban projects are being developed to address the mobility needs of the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
