Thane: Massive Fire Breaks Out At Solid Waste Site In Uttan

Thane, 19th February 2023: A fire broke out at around 8 o’clock in the night of Saturday night in the solid waste of the municipality in Uttan. Due to the high intensity of the fire, the flames started to spread throughout the area. The fire department is making war-level efforts to control the fire.

There is a solid waste project of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation in the Uttan area of Bhayandar West. A few years ago, due to the stoppage of waste processing in this project, a mountain of around eight and a half lakh tons of waste has been standing at that place. In such a situation, a fire suddenly broke out in this waste at around eight o’clock on Saturday night. As soon as the fire was reported, four vehicles of the fire department were present at the scene and as required, water tankers were being ordered.

The fire is due to methane gas generated in the garbage and it is growing with the blowing wind. Fire Officer Prakash Borade informed that a campaign has been planned to control the fire within the next two hours.
