Portion Of Two-Storey Building Collapsed In Nalasopara, No Casualties Reported

Nalasopara, 1st July 2023: On Friday, June 30, the portion of a 20-year-old residential building located on Meera Datar Road in Tulinj, Nalasopara East, collapsed. The building, which had been declared dangerous by the municipality, was in the process of undergoing repairs at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this accident.

Situated behind the Zilla Parishad School, nearly 30 families reside in this two-story building. At around 4 p.m., the gallery of the second floor suddenly crumbled, triggering panic in the area. Upon receiving the information, the municipality’s fire brigade promptly arrived at the spot to assess the situation.

Residents of the building stated that the collapse was likely a result of heavy rainfall. “While the primary construction of the building remains intact and poses no immediate threat, the extension of the gallery that was vulnerable might have collapsed,” informed Nilesh Deshmukh, former chairman of Ward Committee D.

The building has been classified in the B2C (dangerous) category by the authorities, necessitating urgent corrective measures. Repair work has commenced with the involvement of the occupants of the building. Assistant Commissioner Manali Shinde, in charge of Ward Committee D (Achole), announced that a comprehensive structural audit will be conducted. Based on the findings, a decision will be made regarding the relocation of the residents to a safer location.
