Heavy Rains in Maharashtra Prompt Mumbai University to Postpone Examinations

Mumbai, 27th July 2023: Maharashtra, including Mumbai, has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past week, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a red alert for several areas, including Mumbai. In response to the weather situation, local authorities have cautioned citizens to remain vigilant. As a precautionary measure, some government departments and schools have been granted a day’s holiday in specific regions.

Amidst these circumstances, Mumbai University has taken the decision to postpone the examinations scheduled for July 27, which were to be conducted for all affiliated schools and universities. The university issued a circular on Wednesday to inform students and faculty members about this postponement.

The circular states: “All Heads of Departments of the University of Mumbai, Directors of the Distance Learning Institute, Directors of Ratnagiri-Thane-Kalyan sub-departments, and Principals and Professors of all affiliated schools are hereby informed that all examinations scheduled for July 27 have been postponed due to the heavy rains. New dates for these exams will be announced at a later time. Consequently, they are requested to provide this information to the concerned students.”

With safety and the well-being of students in mind, the decision to reschedule the examinations was taken in light of the ongoing heavy rainfall and potential disruptions in transportation and communication. The university authorities will soon announce the revised dates for the affected examinations, ensuring that students are given adequate time to prepare for their tests.

As the region grapples with the impact of the monsoon, Mumbai University aims to prioritize the safety of its students and staff while ensuring a fair and conducive environment for academic pursuits.
