Navi Mumbai: Tanker Overturns On Sion-Panvel Route; No Fatalities Reported
Panvel, 1st August 2023: A tanker heading towards Pune faced a perilous accident on the Sion-Panvel highway two days ago when the driver made a judgmental error while approaching the Belapur Pass flyover. The accident occurred when the driver became confused about whether to proceed over the flyover or underneath it, resulting in a devastating collision with the embankment at the starting point of the flyover. The impact was so severe that the tanker overturned, leading to the spilling of an acid-like liquid, causing a pungent odour and a smoky atmosphere.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident. However, the immediate vicinity under the flyover had to be cordoned off, and traffic was temporarily halted for safety reasons. The authorities worked promptly to address the situation and prevent any potential hazards.
Eyewitnesses recount the incident, describing the massive impact that led to the tanker’s overturning. The acid-like liquid from the damaged tanker began leaking, causing concern among the authorities and the public due to its hazardous nature. The area under the flyover was quickly evacuated to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other commuters.
“Despite the disruption caused by the incident, traffic passing over the flyover continued unaffected. This measure was taken to minimise any further inconvenience to commuters heading towards Pune,” said Senior police inspector Tanaji Bhagat of Nerul police station.
