Mumbai: One Labourer Dies And Four Critical After Consuming Rectified Liquor In Mumbai’s Pump House Area

Andheri, 17th August 2023: Yesterday, a labourer lost his life, and four other people are in a critical stage in Andheri East in Mumbai after consuming rectified liquor on August 15. The dire situation has led to the hospitalisation of the four victims in the ICU of Trauma Care Hospital, Jogeshwari, where their condition remains critical.

Reports indicate that the victims, aged between 18 and 20 years, were five workers who were residing together in a house within the Pump House area of Andheri. The incident unfolded on India’s Independence Day holiday on Tuesday, August 15. Despite the day being designated as a ‘dry day,’ forbidding the sale and consumption of alcohol, the labourers partook in rectified liquor before leaving to the home for the rest.

On the following day, when four workers failed to open their doors, concerned neighbours immediately alerted the local authorities regarding the situation. Responding swiftly, the MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) police arrived at the scene and found the critical situation of these four people. Tragically, one of the workers had succumbed to the effects of the poisonous liquor, while the condition of the remaining four had significantly deteriorated.

Urgent action was taken as the four victims were immediately rushed to the Trauma Care Hospital, where they were admitted to the ICU for critical medical intervention. The MIDC police have wasted no time in launching a comprehensive investigation into the incident, registering a case to delve into the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking outcome. Preliminary findings suggest that the consumption of rectified liquor has led to the death of a labourer.
