Mumbai: Galaxy Hotel In Santacruz Area Catches Fire On Sunday; Four People Died And Three Injured

Santacruz, 28th August 2023: A massive fire broke out in the ‘Galaxy Hotel’ in the Santacruz area on Sunday afternoon. According to the primary information, three people died and three others were seriously injured in this accident.
According to the information, on Sunday afternoon, at around 1.30 p.m., a sudden fire broke out in room number 103 on the third floor of the Galaxy Hotel near Prabhat Colony in the Santa Cruz area. In the blink of an eye, the fire spread out to the upper floor. After receiving the information, several teams of fire brigades rushed to the spot and started dousing the fire and evacuating the people trapped inside the rooms.
However, the intensity of the fire was so severe that three people unfortunately died in the accident. The deceased people are identified as Rupali Kanji (25), Kishan (28), and Kantilal Gordhan Wara (48). Additionally, three people named Alfa Wakharia (19), Manjula Wakharia (49) and Mohammad Aslam (48) have been severely injured in this accident.
The exact cause of the fire in the building is not yet clear, but from the preliminary investigation by the police, it is clear that the necessary fire prevention system was not installed in the hotel. According to the fire prevention law in the municipal area, it is necessary to install a fire prevention system for buildings with a height of more than fifteen metres, including government offices. Also, if there is an industrial building, it becomes inevitable to install a fire prevention system without any height requirement.
Surprisingly, when asked about the reason behind the incomplacency of the rule, the senior official from the hotel informed that the Galaxy Hotel was built in 1966, and at that time, there were no fire prevention laws; therefore, the fire prevention system was not installed in the building premises.
