Navi Mumbai: Uncle And Nephew Lose Lives After Felling Into Navi Mumbai’s Adai Waterfall

Navi Mumbai, 31st August 2023: At Adai waterfall near Navi Mumbai, a young boy and his maternal uncle tragically lost their lives on Wednesday evening after falling into the lake and losing their balance. The victims were identified as Pradeep Kami, a 7-year-old child, and Paras Baki, a 35-year-old man, both residents of Sookapur village.

Despite stern warnings from the local police against visiting the waterfalls in the monsoon season, Baki and Kami families from Sookapur went to the falls on Wednesday afternoon for a monsoon trip.

Eyewitnesses reported that the young Pradeep Kami had climbed to the top of the waterfall. Realising the danger he was in, his uncle, Paras Baki, rushed to his rescue. However, tragedy struck as both Pradeep and Paras slipped, losing their footing and plummeting down the waterfall.

Efforts to save the victims were launched promptly, with the assistance of local police, villagers, and firemen. The rescue operation stretched late into the night, ultimately retrieving the injured victims from the waters. Tragically, despite their efforts, Paras Baki succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical treatment.

Chandrakant Landge, the Senior Police Inspector, expressed that the Khandeshwar police had taken measures to prevent such accidents, including placing signs explicitly forbidding access to the waterfall during the monsoon. Furthermore, a police presence had been established in the area to enforce these safety measures. However, it was evident that some citizens were disregarding these warnings and attempting to access the waterfall, sidestepping the police presence.
