Mumbai Police Detains Suspect After False Bomb Threat Call; Security Concerns Rise

Mumbai, 7th October 2023: In a recent security incident, Mumbai Police responded swiftly to a midnight bomb threat call, detaining a suspect who falsely claimed a bomb would explode within two to three hours in the city. The caller, who identified himself as speaking from the Vanrai area, mentioned the presence of Seema Haider and 25 individuals from Pakistan, heightening concerns.
The Mumbai Police Control Room received the alarming call on Friday night. The caller’s ominous warning prompted the involvement of the Crime Branch and Vanrai Police. Following a thorough investigation, a suspect was apprehended, and a case was registered at the Vanrai Police Station.
This incident is part of a worrying trend, with Mumbai Police having encountered over 80 false threats and misleading information calls in the last five months. Notably, a recent email threat targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, bringing security to the forefront of concern.
Just days ago, an anonymous caller dialled the helpline number 112, reporting a bomb threat within a Matralaya building. The caller demanded to speak with the Chief Minister and threatened to detonate explosives within the ministry if this request was not met. As a result, a bomb investigation team was dispatched to the ministry, focusing on the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s areas. The public was barred from entering these zones during the inspection, which lasted approximately an hour and a half. Fortunately, no suspicious items were discovered, but a suspect from Pathardi was detained by local police in connection with the incident.
Adding to the security challenges, a woman from South Mumbai harassed the police by making 38 nuisance calls. According to the police, these incidents are putting significant pressure on the police system.
