Mumbai: Fraudster Duped 156 People For 5 Lakh Rupees On Pretext Of Giving Discounted Dandiya Passes
Borivali, 16th October 2023: In Mumbai, 156 youths were cheated by a masquerader by falsely claiming to give them discounted passes for famous Dandiya Queen Falguni Pathak’s ‘Garba Night’ show in Mumbai. The accused are said to have cheated people for approximately 5 lakh and 25 thousand rupees.
According to the police, an individual named Vishal Shah engaged in the fraudulent sale of discounted passes for Falguni Pathak’s Borivali (West) event. He falsely represented himself as the official pass vendor for Falguni Pathak’s Mumbai shows, deceiving people into purchasing “dandiya” passes at a reduced rate of Rs 3,300 instead of the original price of Rs 4,500.
Under the ruse of Shah’s claims, one individual from Kandivali, along with 156 of his friends and colleagues, fell into the trap and sought to obtain these passes without verifying their legitimacy. In accordance with the scheme, Shah directed one of the individuals to meet him on New Link Road, Borivali (West), on Thursday, where they would supposedly receive passes for all.
As per the instruction, the individual arrived at the designated venue and delivered the agreed-upon funds to Shah’s representative. However, Shah instructed the person to visit his office in Yogi Nagar to collect the passes. To the person’s astonishment, upon reaching the specified address, no such building was to be found. Upon further investigation, it became apparent that they had fallen victim to deception, as there was no such structure in the vicinity.
Frustrated by the given incident, the accused tried to call Mr. Shah at his given number. However, Shah’s mobile was found to be switched off. He immediately lodged a formal complaint at the MHB Colony Police Station in Borivali.
The police on Friday registered a case of cheating and treachery against Shah and his unidentified accomplice for cheating the youth. “Police are searching for Shah and his accomplice in this case,” said a police officer.
