Mumbai: Negligence Case Registered Against Lab In-Charge After Fatal Incident At Textile Laboratory

Worli, 21st October 2023: After the completion of a one-round year, the police department of Worli has finally taken legal action against Leena Mhatre, the laboratory in-charge, in connection with the tragic deaths of two female employees in a laboratory.
Last year, in the month of November, two female employees died due to a sweltering mishap in the laboratory of the famous Sasmira Institute of Design and Textile in Worli. Two victims, Shraddha Shinde and Pratiksha Ghume, were carrying out experiments during which hot glycerine was released from a glycerin dyeing machine and fell on them. Due to this, their entire bodies were seriously scorched by the heat released from the harmful chemical substance.
After the incident, both victims were quickly admitted to the intensive care unit at Burn Hospital in Airoli for treatment. However, both died during the treatment. Meanwhile, police made a shocking discovery during the investigation. They found out that although safety equipment was available, the staff went to the laboratory without wearing it.
As Mhatre was responsible for security inspection, the Worli police on Friday filed a chargesheet against the laboratory in-charge, Leena Mhatre, for alleged negligence in this case. It has been learned that Mhatre will be arrested in this case in the near future.
