Maharashtra Unveils Ambitious Vision: Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway’s Third Phase Expansion

Mumbai/Nagpur, 22nd February 2024: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has revealed its vision for the third phase of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway’s expansion, focusing on interconnecting the districts of Bhandara, Gondia, and Gadchiroli. This ambitious project aims to bolster Maharashtra’s infrastructure and promote economic growth in the region. The MSRDC has initiated the tendering process for three key projects to enhance connectivity.

The centrepiece of this phase is the construction of a 127-kilometre access-controlled expressway from Nagpur to Gondia, with an estimated cost of Rs 7,345 crore. Additionally, a 28-kilometre stretch linking Bhandara to Gondia is planned at Rs 1,587 crore, and a 194-kilometre segment from Nagpur to Chandrapur is budgeted at Rs 9,543.2 crore.

The primary goal of expanding the Samruddhi Mahamarg is to significantly reduce travel time in the easternmost districts of Maharashtra, unlocking new opportunities and ensuring seamless connectivity with Mumbai, the financial capital. The Samruddhi Corridor, spanning 700 kilometres, serves as a crucial link between Mumbai and Nagpur. Currently, a 600-kilometre stretch from Nagpur to Bharvir in Igatpuri is operational, with the remaining 101 kilometres expected to be completed by July of this year.

The MSRDC had previously outlined plans for the second phase of corridor expansion, focusing on connecting the districts of Jalna, Parbhani, and Nanded through a 180-kilometre link, with a budget of Rs 19,000 crore.
