Accident Of Two BEST Buses And Auto-Rikshaw On Mumbai’s Eastern Express Highway Claims Two Lives

Mumbai, 2nd July 2023: An accident occurred this morning on the Goregaon check-neck bridge of the Eastern Express Highway, involving two BEST buses and an autorickshaw. Sadly, two individuals lost their lives in this horrific collision. The decease have been identified as Johnny Sankharam, 42, and Sujata Panchaki, 38.

The incident took place at approximately 2 a.m. when the driver of Bus No. 1862 abruptly applied the brakes and urgently signaled the driver of Bus No. 1453 to do the same. Unfortunately, the roads were exceptionally slippery due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai, causing Bus No. 1453 to skid and collide with Bus No. 1862. Subsequently, it collided with an autorickshaw with the registration number MH 02 EQ 9371, resulting in a catastrophic accident.

Tragically, the passengers inside the autorickshaw, Johnny Sankharam and Sujata Panchaki, suffered severe injuries as a consequence of the collision. Promptly, the police transported them to a trauma care hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, Johnny Sankharam’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was declared dead at 3 a.m. before reaching the hospital.

Meanwhile, Sujata Panchaki was urgently transferred to Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri. However, doctors declared her dead at approximately 4 a.m. The rickshaw driver involved in the accident sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
