Accident on Mumbai Pune Highway: Shivneri Bus Collides with Tanker near Wakad, Driver Severely Injured

Punawale, 14th March 2024: A collision occurred between a Shivneri bus travelling from Mumbai to Pune and a tanker parked on the side of the road. The bus driver sustained serious injuries, while two to three passengers suffered minor injuries. The incident happened around 1 pm on Thursday (14th) on the Katraj Dehu Road bypass.

Senior Police Inspector Sunil Pinjan said that an oil tanker had broken down at Punawale on the Mumbai-Pune lane. The driver had pulled over and called a mechanic for repairs. Work on the tanker had commenced.

At approximately one o’clock in the afternoon, the Shivneri bus approached at high speed. When the tanker suddenly appeared in front of it, the bus driver lost control, resulting in a forceful collision with the tanker from behind. The impact caused severe damage to the front of the bus and the rear bumper of the tanker.

The bus driver sustained serious injuries, and a luxury car following behind also collided with the bus. Upon receiving the report of the accident, officials and staff from Ravet Police and the Wakad Traffic Branch promptly arrived at the scene.

Using a nearby tractor, the police cleared the accident site by removing the damaged vehicles. The injured driver was extricated from the bus and promptly transported to the hospital for treatment. Similarly, the two to three passengers with minor injuries were also taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Traffic flow was restored after the removal of the vehicles involved in the accident. The Ravet police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
